Master of Science in Food Security and Climate Change

The Master of Science in Food Security and Climate Change (MS FSCC) is a joint degree developed under the European Commission's ERASMUS + Capacity Building for Higher Education funding from 2016-2019. The ERASMUS project was led by Kasetsart University (KU) and involved 11 other partners from Southeast Asia and 5 partners from Europe. Starting 2020, the developed MS FSCC program will continue to run under the University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC) who initiated its development and a product of the 29-year collaboration of the member institutions.

The MS FSCC is jointly offered by the member universities of the Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC); these are Kasetsart University (KU) in Thailand, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Malaysia, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) in the Philippines, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), both in Indonesia. Other UC members such as Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Malang, Indonesia will also host MS FSCC activities while Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo-NODAI) and National Taiwan University (NTU), UC associate members, commit to accept MS FSCC students for the non-degree mobility.

The MS FSCC involves a compulsory mobility of students within the UC. Thus, each MS FSCC student will be enrolled in two universities, be supervised jointly by professors from these universities, and have a joint thesis defense. The students will also attend summer schools that will serve as enhancement courses for the MS FSCC.

Program Objectives

The program, which will be offered under the Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC), brings together the higher education institutions in agriculture and life sciences from Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia to offer an international graduate degree on the topic of Food Security and Climate Change. Other members of the UC in Taiwan and Japan also committed to accept MS FSCC students for the non-degree mobility.

The Joint Master of Science in Food Security and Climate Change will help develop a critical mass of high-quality, next generation of interdisciplinary professionals able to address the imposing challenges posed by climate change and food security in their country and the region.
